Argentina wins the World Cup
Argentina defeated France in the 2022 World Cup championship match, defeating the reigning champion in a shootout following a 3-3 deadlock at halftime.
France only made two of the penalty kicks, while Argentina scored four.
After his team’s triumph over Croatia in last week’s semi-finals, the well-known Argentinian athlete revealed that this upcoming game would be his final World Cup contest. Messi received the coveted Golden Ball, a reward given to the competition’s top player, following their victory in the final. He has now won the Golden Ball twice, making him the only player in World Cup games history to do so.
The first player to score in both the group stage and each round of the knockout stage in a single World Cup, Messi now has 13 goals overall. Mbappé has12, which is the same as Brazilian legend Pelé.
Messi’s participation in the World Cup for a record-breaking 26th time broke the previous tie with Germany’s Lothar Matthäus. Starting in2006, those matches have been spread out over five World Cups. With 12 goals, Messi is equal with Pelé for sixth position in terms of most World Cup goals ever scored by a single player.
The losing team in the final will receive $30 million from a $440 million prize pool set aside by FIFA, while the World Cup champions will receive $42 million in prize money for their soccer organisation.
The players don’t get all the money, but they are supposed to get a good chunk of it.According to French sports daily L’Equipe, French players like Kylian Mbappé are eligible to receive a bonus from their federation of 554,000 euros (or$586,000) for winning the final.
Morocco finished in fourth place and will receive $25 million in prize money, while third-place team Croatia received $27 million.
