Babar Azam becomes leading test scorer
Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, reached a number of milestones with his century against New Zealand on the opening day of the two-Test series in Karachi.
By beating England cricketer Joe Root, the captain took over as the top Test scorer of 2022.
Additionally, he equaled Sri Lankan batsman Kumar Sangakkara’s record for the most 50+ scores in international cricket in a calendar year and set the record for the most international runs by a Pakistani batter across all formats in a year.
On Monday morning, Babar beat Mohammad Yousaf to become Pakistan’s top run scorer in a calendar year of international cricket when he reached the 13th run of his innings.
In all three forms, Yousaf scored 2,435 runs in 39 innings in 2006.It took Babar 51 innings to surpass Yousaf’s previous mark of 16 years. He is also the first Pakistani to ever score more than 2,500 runs in a single calendar year of international cricket.
In the list of the most 50+ scores in a calendar year, Babar and Kumar Sangakkara are at the top after reaching their 50.In2014, Sangakkara received 25 scores of 50 or above.
Babar has played in 51 innings of batting so far, whereas it took the Sri Lankan player 56 innings to attain the milestone. In2022, Babar overtook Joe Root of England to become the Test cricket player with the most runs scored. When Root’s innings reached90, Babar overtook him. In 27 Test innings, the England hitter amassed 1,098 runs at an average of 45.With 16 Test innings, Babar outperformed him.
The Pakistani batter leads all players in Test cricket in 2022 with 11 scores of 50 or more (100×4 and 50×7).
