Considered as the most prestigious tournament in the world, FIFA is a men’s football world cup which is held after every four years. It consists of 32 nations competing against each other in a month long tournament for the prize. The last tournament was held in 2018 in Russia. FIFA 2022 is being hosted by Qatar. However, FIFA Qatar 2022 is different from those held in the preceding years. It is quite historic.
For the first time ever, FIFA world cup is being held in a Muslim Arab country. Moreover, the opening ceremony started with the recitation of the Holy Quran’s verses. The young reciter and FIFA ambassador, Ghanim Al Mufta gave the world the message of diversity and acceptance by reciting:
“O, people! We created you from a male and a female, and We made you races and tribes, so that you may come to know one another. The best among you before Allah is the most righteous.) [Surah al-Hujurat:13]”
The young reciter caught the attention and appreciation by the masses for his resilience despite being born with a disorder called Caudal Regression Syndrome. Furthermore, world-famous Islamic preacher, Dr, Zakir Naik has also been invited for the event. The local women are strictly required not to be dressed in clothes that may reveal their shoulders, midriff, knees, etc., or else they can face imprisonment. FIFA itself has advised the non-local fans to wear clothes that are appropriate of the Qatar’s Islamic culture
All the Muslims around the world are rejoicing and taking pride in how the Qatar is holding tight on the Islamic roots and introducing Islam to the huge masses through the football world cup.
