Messi’s Instagram post crosses 45 million likes
Kylian Mbappé’s astonishing brace at the opening of the final 10 minutes of regulation time turned the game into a nail-biting thriller that has been acclaimed as one of the greatest World Cup finals of all time. For much of the final, it appeared that Argentina would easily defeat a weary France team.
Messi alone scored twice, with the final goal of extra time giving Argentina what appeared to be the victory. However, Mbappé sealed his hat-trick from the penalty spot a few seconds later to force a penalty shootout after the game ended 3-3. Messi and Mbappé, who are club teammates at Paris St. Germain, scored goals that helped Argentina win the penalty shootout 4-2 in the end.
He then uploaded images of himself celebrating with the trophy and a sincere Instagram post in which he greeted his colleagues, family, and Argentina’s fans.
He still intends to play for Argentina even if it might be his final World Cup game.“WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!!!!! I dreamed it so many times, I wanted it so much that I still haven’t fallen, I can’t believe it,” Messi said in Spanish.
Messi in his Instagram post wrote: “Thank you very much to my family, to all who support me and also to all who believed in us. We demonstrate once again that Argentines when we fight together and united we are capable of achieving what we set out to do. The merit belongs to this group, which is above individualities, it is the strength of all fighting for the same dream that was also the dream of all Argentines… We did it!!! GO ARGENTINA!!!!! we are seeing each other very soon.”
