Karachi: Pizza Hut and Burger King sold in Pakistan to a new management Authority. Islamabad-based Maaks International has bought MCR and MCR Pakistan. MCR and MCR previously run fast food chains like Pizza Hut and Burger King in Pakistan. Maaks International is reported to have bought MCR and MCR for $10-15 million.
Pizza Hut and Burger King will continue to operate under the same brand name. However, this time with new management of the Maaks International.
Previously, MCR and MCR Pakistan was the management authority of Pizza Hut and Burger King. The brands were running out of commission. Basically, they were going in loss.
Maaks International on the other hand is a private business firm that has operations in rice, petroleum, pharmaceuticals etc. It has promised to give Pizza Hut and Burger King a great comeback in the market this month with an addition of new 25 outlets per year.
There are total of 84 Pizza Hut outlets and 9 Burger King outlets operating all around Pakistan. Maaks International will acquire all these outlets. Moreover, it has also claimed to increase the number of outlets operating in Pakistan to a higher number in next 5 years.
Executive Director of the Maaks International Azhar Jafri said that it intends to change the Pizza Hut and Burger King operations completely in Pakistan.
He said: “We want to revamp operations completely,” and “We plan to increase Pizza Hut branches to 200 and Burger King to around 50 by 2027.”
All the outlets of Pizza Hut are closed in Pakistan because of supply-chain issues as the MCR and MCR did not focus on the supply-chain issues and ambiance of Pizza Hut. This resulted in the brand doing into loss. This has caused other Pizza selling brands take the market.
Azhar Jafri said the Maaks International will completely transform the operations and use the latest technology to boost the business.
However, there are a large number of employees working in these brands who have unpaid salaries. Jafri acknowledged the employees’ concerns and promised to clear all their dues.
