Sindh launches bus-service for women
In Karachi, the Sindh government has begun operating a women-only bus service. Sharjeel Inam Memon, the head of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), tweeted on Thursday that the city’s bus service had begun thanks to the Sindh Transport Department. He also sent images of the buses, which have a distinctive pink paint job.
He further said that “The Sindh government’s transport department will launch Pakistan’s first bus service that would be solely for women and girls.InshaAllah, Pink buses will begin running in #Karachi on February 1st.Peoples Bus Service, At Your Service.”
Two routes in Karachi will be the first to offer the women-only pink bus service. The first route will go from Model Colony via Shahrah-i-Faisal, Metropol, and I.I. Chundrigarh Road to Merewether Tower. Moreover, the second route will go from Merewether Tower via Saddar to District Central; the latter route will become operational later.
The pink bus service, will cost Rs50, according to Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon. It would run after very 20 minutes during morning and evening business hours,
The pink bus service will be Karachi’s first women-only public transportation option. In the initial phase, eight vehicles have been purchased for the pink bus service; if the first route is successful, additional buses will be ready for the second route.
Twitter users applauded the bus service’s debut as a step toward enhancing women’s access to public transportation in Sindh.
