Twitter relaunches bluetick service
After many announcements, Twitter finally announced on Saturday to relaunch its subscription service twice a week from Monday. Moreover, it is also launching a new system for authentication of the accounts by giving them blueticks.
Twitter in a tweet said: “We’re relaunching @TwitterBlue on Monday — subscribe on web for $8/month or on (Apple’s) iOS for $11/month to get access to subscriber-only features, including the blue checkmark”.
Bluetick mark on a Twitter account means that the account has been verified by the Twitter.
Blueticks were reserved for famous public figures and organization previously. This was to avoid impersonation and misinformation. Moreover, it was completely free. There was no fee charged on the account in exchange of getting their accounts verified.
Billionaire Entrepreneur, Elon Musk bought the Twitter in October 2022. He wanted to have more ways to generate revenue than just advertising. Therefore, he came up with charging users for premium features such as blueticks on Twitter accounts.
Blue-tick subscribers will also see fewer ads, have their tweets amplified above others, and be able to post and view longer, better quality videos, the platform says.
However, according to Twitter, those check marks will now be replaced with either gold (for businesses) or grey (for others such as authorities) badges.
Under the new system, subscribers who change their names or display photos will lose their blue tick until the account has been reviewed by Twitter.
The new version of the app was launched 10 days after Elon Musk took over Twitter in early November. However, many fake accounts were made with blueticks that pretended to be celebrities and companies. Those accounts due to blueticks appeared to be genuine. Interestingly, many accounts pretended to be Elon Musk himself!
So, the version was suspended amid the security issues.
However, now Musk has again announced the news that Twitter relaunches bluetick service this Monday.
