
Lieutenant General Asim Munir is the newly designated army chief and the senior most general among the army officers. He did his training from Pakistan Mililtary Academy Kakul and was rewarded sword of honor for his exceptional performance. Moreover, he is also the recipient of Hilal-i-Imtiaz. He served as Lt Colonel in Saudia Arabia where he memorized the Holy Quran and become a well verses Hafiz-e- Quran.
Some of the many achievements of the newly appointed army chief includes being the Force Commader in the Northern areas in 2014, director-general Military Intelligence in 2017, director-general Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Corps Commander Gujranwala in June 2019 etc.
In the midst of the controversy over the appointment of army chief between the coalition government and the opposition, the premier Shehbaz Sharif used his constitutional power and sent his choice and advise to the President Arif Alvi who gave the green signal. President Alvi also promoted Lieutenant General Sahir Shamshad Mirza HI(M) to the rank of General and appointed him as the chairman of Joint chief of staff committee. Both the appointment of army chief and promotion of Lieutenant General were made under the article 243(4)(a) and (b) and Article 48(1) of the constitution of Pakistan along with the Section 8-A and 8-D of the Pakistan Army Act 1952.
